Specify the interface that is connected to the TFTP Server. Follow these steps to configure settings for downloading the new software image file from ROM Monitor: If the software image on the Cisco ASA Security Appliance is corrupted and the device does not boot to normal Operating mode, you can load a new image using TFTP from the ROM Monitor mode. Running the System Image from TFTP in ROM Monitor The Management 0/0 interface is used for connectivity to the TFTP Server by default. You can use the ROM Monitor mode to perform the Password Recovery procedure or to run the system image from a TFTP Server. If no valid image is found, no system image is loaded, and the system remains in a boot loop until ROM Monitor (ROMMON) mode is broken into by pressing the Break key or the ESC key. Upon reload or a power cycle, the system boots the first valid image that it finds in the Internal Flash Memory. Enter ROM Monitor and run the system image from a TFTP Server. Break the boot loop by pressing the Break or ESC key. Cisco ASA Adaptive Security Appliance cycles in the boot loop if no valid system image is found. You can also interrupt this Setup Dialog and immediately start the Configuration via the CLI. However, if the factory built-in configuration has been erased and there is no existing configuration, the Security Appliance prompts you to enter the Interactive Setup Dialog. If the factory built-in Configuration is present on the appliance, you are presented with the ciscoasa prompt. For Cisco ASA Software Version 8.3 and later, the licenses will show if they are perpetual or temporary. The platform and licenses that are enabled on this platform will be displayed in the boot process output. After the timer runs out or if you press the Space bar, the Security Appliance finds the first valid system image and loads it. During this time, you can interrupt the boot process by pressing the Break or ESC key, and you can enter ROM Monitor mode. The Security Appliance waits for 10 seconds before commencing to boot the system image file.
